Main Difference Between A&D SC and SE Series Washdown Scales

Both the SC and SE series offer identical core performance: IP68 full washdown protection, the same capacities/readabilities, battery life, large LCD display, counting/comparator functions, and rugged stainless pans.

For a Quick Decision Guide - Choose SC if maximum durability and hygiene in aggressive washdown conditions is essential. Choose SE for reliable washdown performance at a better price point.

The only meaningful difference is the material of the base and column (frame):

• SC Series — Full stainless steel (SUS304) base and column → Superior corrosion resistance and hygiene — ideal for the harshest wet/corrosive environments (e.g., seafood processing, chemical plants, frequent high-pressure washdowns).
• SE Series — Painted mild steel (epoxy-coated) base and column → More cost-effective while still fully IP68 washdown-safe — excellent value for general washdown areas where extreme corrosion resistance isn’t required (e.g., warehouses, food prep with moderate exposure).

Trade Approved Balance Verification Certificate

When a balance receives an NMI/NSC Certificate of Approval, it is assigned an accuracy class that defines the required performance standards for legal-for-trade use. A key specification is the verification interval — the smallest certified division permitted for trade weighing. Because modern high-resolution balances have a large number of internal scale divisions, the verification interval for trade approval is typically coarser than the balance's displayed readability. In most cases, trade-approved balances continue to display finer increments on screen, though how this is handled varies between models. The verification interval defines the legally recognised accuracy and increment for commercial transactions and weighing applications subject to trade regulations.
